The article deals with the description of the Polish national character in the Polish and West European historiog-raphy of the Enlightenment and Romanticism (until mid-19th century). A prominent place in the list of specific Polish ethnic qualities was occupied by the properties of temperament, which explained the national peculiarities of the political system, social behavior and customs. They were regarded as archaic Slavic features preserved by the Poles in their unaltered state and «purity». |
