Abstract
Field experiment results are presented on the measurements of the acoustic wave velocity and attenuation in snow. The experimental technique is discussed. Signal oscillograms and corresponding spectra of a periodic acoustic pulse series generated by a loudspeaker and recorded by a microphone and a seismic detector are demonstrated. The results can be applied in the design of active pulse-echo sonars and passive acoustic sounding devices to search for people buried in the snow.
