One of the most exemplary plays of German Postmodernity with a marked cultural identity is «Spectators» (Besucher, 1988), a grotesque comedy by Botho Strauss. In keeping with their postmodernist specificity his works are based on the principle of non-selection. The comedy displays fragmentary, kaleidoscopic action typical of Strauss as a postmodernist playwright. Its seemingly unfinished and disconnected scenes are unified as parts of a single play field. |
