The article considers the school-leavers' progress with respect to the levels of learning in the courses of general physics and mathematical analysis (according to the results of the unified state examination), as well as first year students' examination results at the physics department of the Nizhni Novgorod State University. The analysis demonstrates the dynamics of learning content elements in general physics and mathematical analysis and helps to investigate the effect of the previously covered material and the results of the unified state examination (USE) on the success in mastering the subsequent material. The results obtained allow the correlation to be established between the USE results and the digestion of the course content in general physics and mathematics.
