Abstract
The influence of shadow effects on the average intensity of backscattering acoustic signal at oblique sounding of discrete bottom irregularities is discussed. The results of physical simulation are presented and a simple theoretical shadowing model is proposed permitting to estimate the conditions under which such effects have to be accounted when calculating the average intensity of backscattering signal.
