Abstract
The data of more than 100 geomagnetic stations for 6 solar flare events of different intensity have been analyzed to study long-period (30-60 minutes) pulsations of the H-component of geomagnetic field before large solar proton flares. Some assumptions on the mechanism of such pulsations have been made. The possibility to use the growth of long-period geomagnetic pulsations to forecast the solar flare activity has been studied by the example of the event on 22 March 1991. An algorithm of solar proton flare forecasting using geomagnetic data has been proposed.
