By means of bioindication and biotesting methods, we have obtained information on the ecological state of the Aba River for a long time interval and on the potential consequences of the river pollution. Depletion of species composition, reduction of phytobenthos and zoobenthos, toxicity of bottom sediment water extracts when applied to test objects testify to considerable anthropogenic pollution of river bottom sediments from the headwaters (city of Kiselevsk) to the mouth. The results of the biological analysis of the Aba River bottom sediment data provide the basis for recommendations on cleaning its bed.
