We have studied the dynamics of heme-containing protein accumulation as well as benzidine- and NADH-peroxidase activities in intra- and extracellular compartments of wheat seedling shoots and roots at IAA introduction to root solution. The light-dependent increase of peroxidase activity has been shown to occur in the fractions investigated at early stages of wheat seedling formation. In the aerial parts of wheat green seedlings, the same IAA introduction has caused the shift of pro/antioxidant balance towards the antioxidant activity. In the green seedling roots, IAA induced an increase of enzyme activity in both forms, while in etiolated seedlings it only increased prooxidant activity. It is assumed that light may modify seedling resistance by inducing changes in endogenous IAA levels.
