| Folklore and mythological sources of Luka's image in M. Gorky's drama «The Lower Depths» are examined. The contradictory nature of the world outlook of Gorky's character is revealed. This character's allusive correlation with both the image of the apostle Luke, on the one hand, and with the image of the sly, cunning tempter of human hearts, on the other hand, is established. The connection between the writer's work with the national spiritual culture is considered. |
