| This article presents an analysis of the Regulation «On the Settlement of Jews» of December 9, 1804 as the most
important source of legislation regulating the legal status of the Jewish population of the Russian Empire in the early
19th century. The lawmakers desire to abolish the traditional organization of the Jewish community is emphasized. It
is stated that the Regulation «On the Settlement of Jews» of December 9, 1804 provoked poverty among the Jews. |
