This paper presents the experience of comparative analysis of the composition of the hand-written Russian codex – the Prolog (Greek: .......... or ..........) of the 16th–17th centuries with the Byzantine sources. Codex texts from Byzantine sources (different types of Typikons, Paterikons, etc.) and original Russian and Slavonic mate- rial are identified and analyzed to address the issue of the composition of late hand-written Prologs and preservation of the early menologic structure in these books.
