We examine the interpretation of Plato's dialogue "The Symposium" in the European cultural tradition and analyze the development of the philosophy of love in the writings by Plotinus, V.S. Solovyov and A.F. Losev. Particular attention is paid to the interpretation by F. Schleiermacher and T. Slezak of the feast and philosophical conversation as a prototype for the community of "friends of wisdom" and the origin of philosophy in the hermeneutical direction. |
