Abstract
The whole centuries-old history of the peoples of the Volga region attests to the interaction and mutual influence of their cultures and traditions. These old historical traditions provide the basis for further development of the intercultural dialogue. The mass media play an important role in forming the intercultural dialogue. The contradictory nature of their functioning is connected with the transformation process of the modern mass media, namely with the commercialization of the press and decline of its cultural and educational mission. Contemporary journalism is a multidimensional phenomenon. Publications in nationality languages have been rapidly developing in the common mass media space. The emphasis in such publications is placed on ethnocultural themes. It is definitely true that the Russian language, which is the language of interethnic communication for these peoples, favors the development of this dialogue.
