Abstract
Ytterbium phenylethynyl cuprate {[(PhC?C) 3Cu]Yb(THF) 2} 2 reacts with benzyl chloride, methyl iodide and triphenylmethyl chloride in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at 20-90°C leading to the elimination of phenylethynylcopper and formation of polyfunctional hydrocarbon and halogenides PhC?CYbCl(I), YbCl 2 (YbI 2). A discussion of the reaction mechanism is presented.
