The article presents an analysis of the Bosporan Kingdom’s legal status during Nero’s principate. According to the numismatic data, the legal status of the Bosporan Kingdom started to get closer to that of a province since 63 A.D. as a result of the Roman influence. The author believes that maintaining personal authority by means of some achievements in foreign policy became Nero’s main goal in the last years of his reign, therefore Rome's policy in the East became more active. The expansion of the Roman power would strengthen the position of the emperor in Rome, and the Bosporan Kingdom was to fall victim of this policy. The author assumes that Bosporus had to be turned into a Roman province during Nero's Eastern campaign which never happened, thus ensuring the preservation of the Bosporan Kingdom.
