The effect of a short-term heat shock on the water content, water potential, proline concentration and plasma membrane permeability in wheat seedlings has been studied. Despite the proline accumulation during the heating, there was a decrease in the relative water content and an increase in water deficit. The increased water potential correlated with the electrolyte leakage through the plasma membranes under the influence of hyperthermia. |
