This article examines the Septet for Winds by Paul Hindemith. This is the first study in Russian musicology with the use of foreign literature. This chamber ensemble work is one of the best examples of organic synthesis of different genre components where we feel the features of a suite, a Concerto grosso that are newly implemented by the ensemble of soloists, and a symphony. Characteristic stylistic features of the composer are revealed in the septet: a clear structure of the form, the polyphonic mode of thinking, original tonal layout and connection with the national tradition.
