| The article deals with the criticism of romantic aesthetics in M.E. Saltykov-Shchedrin's journalism of the 1850s–1860s. The writer creates a system of parables («Aesopian language»), through which he expresses his negative attitude to the outdated romantic tradition. On the material of the writer' six articles, various options of the functioning of «Aesopian language» in his literary criticism and publicistic writings are considered. |
