| The paper analyzes the notes made by Leo Tolstoy on the copy Machiavelli's book «The Prince» stored in the writer's personal library in Yasnaya Polyana. The principles of inclusion of direct quotations from Machiavelli in the text of Leo Tolstoy's article «The One Thing Needful» («On the State Power») are considered, along with the functions of the allusions to the treatise in Tolstoy's later works, in particular, the «Posthumous Papers of the Elder Fyodor Kuzmich». |
