We consider the problem of choosing an optimal search algorithm for photon trajectory intersections with the boundaries in Monte Carlo light transport simulation in multilayer biological tissues with complex geometry based on the example of the human head. A review is given of main intersection search algorithms, their strengths and weaknesses, as well as the possibility of their adaptation to the problem. We present the results of computing experiment tests to compare the most appropriate intersection search algorithms, as well as their analysis in terms of selection of the optimal algorithm.
