The monument examined in this article is extremely important for studying the culture and art of ancient Lycia. This building that was discovered and published during the 1970s by German archaeologists is now known as the tomb of Pericles of Limyra. It belongs to the same number of the most significant sepulchral structures of Lycia as the Nereid monument in Xanthos and the hero's shrine at Gj?lbaschi-Trysa. The analysis of its architecture and sculptural decoration allows a better understanding of the specifics of Lycian culture that absorbed the elements of Western and middle Eastern cultures, and at the same time possessed pronounced local specificity. |
