One of the most important problems of the design of the space observatory «Millimetron» (the project «Spectrum - M») is the task of directing of opening telescope of the diameter 10-12 m with the accuracy up to 0.3?0.1''. This task is aggravated by a non- rigid dumb-bell shaped construction of the space apparatus with radiation screens with permanent orientation to the Sun used for protecting the telescope from warming in the Sun. A special multi-functional device, a directing manipulator, is suggested which represents a set of several single hexapods (Gough ? Stewart platform) working as a united complete devise. In the project «Millimetron», an application of the directing manipulator allows: transforming the telescope from transportation shape to the working one; directing the telescope to any spatial angle in the half-sphere limited by the screens of the radiation cooling of the telescope; maintaining a constant situation of the mass centre of the telescope and space apparatus (ore very closed to them) by directing the telescope; orientation of the space apparatus; decreasing stabilization oscillations of the telescope; decreasing the load of the actuators ? hand-wheels of the space apparatus etc. As a result, the suggested devise is reshaped to transformable multi-functional space robot-manipulator for navigation tasks of the orbital astrophysical observatory «Millimetron»
