Results of simulating the behavior of an aerodynamic pendulum obtained with the modified discrete vortices method (MDVM) and with phenomenological models (quasi-steady approach and attached oscillator model) are compared. It is shown that for forced harmonic oscillations of the pendulum and for its free oscillations, results obtained using the attached oscillator model qualitatively agree with MDVM data, and the applicability domain of this model is larger than that of the quasi-steady approach. Stability of the "along the flow" equilibrium is studied depending on system parameters. It is determined, in particular, that this equilibrium loses its stability when the moment of inertia of the pendulum increases, even if the rotation point is upstream from the center of pressure.
