Abstract
Construction of a geometric model and the calculations in the framework of the Navier ? Stokes equations were performed using the software package «Fluent» and its geometrical preprocessor «Gambit». The main results of the calculations are as follows. It was found that the reverse flow that occurs in the lower part of the broad nasal cavity does not prevent respiratory function and plays a positive role, consisting in heating of inhaled air. It is shown that the swirling flow is generated in the trachea during the inspiration with the formation of several vortices. During the expiration the air flow structure and parameters in the trachea are influenced mainly by the geometry of the bronchial tree and, to a lesser extent, by the nasal cavity configuration. The numerical simulation of a clinic rhinomanometry method has shown that it does not reflect the real "the pressure drop - volume flow rate" relationship for breathing in natural conditions.
