In her analysis of the late medieval images of inhabitants of the infernal world, the author tries to reveal the meaning of visual language, through which was constructed an image of the demons in the Middle Ages. Medieval demons appear as hybrids, having a form of androgynous, human-like creatures with strongly pronounced features of animals. In case of absence of anthropomorphic traits, characteristics of various animals are combined in their appearance. |
