The characteristics of modern instrumental multielemental methods of analysis of optical ceramics and its precursors have been overviewed. These methods include: atomic-emission spectrometry with arc electrical discharge, in a two-jet arc plasmatron and in inductively coupled plasma as a source of atomization and spectra excitation, and mass-spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma as a source of ionization. The methods listed provide easy preparation of samples for analysis and low limits of detection of various impurities. The techniques of analysis of Y
