We consider various aspects of cross-cultural communication research in modern historical works and some results of the studies in this area using the material of the Mediterranean oikumene of Late Antiquity. In the focus of the author’s attention are «Church Histories» of the 4th – 7th centuries, written in Greek, Latin, Syriac, Armenian and Coptic. «Church Histories» are regarded as a unique phenomenon reflecting complicated communicative processes in the Mediterranean region during that epoch.
