This paper summarizes the results of the experiments to train active officers at the Nizhni Novgorod State University and states the objectives of the Institute of Military Education. The options for the implementation of programs of military training are analyzed, depending on the level of higher education. The possibility of officer training for military service under the contract on the basis of the bachelor level of higher professional education is justified, along with the time parameters of military training of active officers.
