Abstract
The effect of organic bases and weak electrolytes on viscosity and electrokinetic potential of boehmite sols was studied. The introduction of hexamethylenetetramine, acetamide and ammonium salts of formic and acetic acids in boehmite sol has been found to lead to a significant increase of the viscosity of sols. Dimethylformamide and urea additives decrease the viscosity of sols and increase the ?-potential. The reasons for such behaviour of boehmite sols are discussed as dependent on the chemical properties of the additives introduced.
