Abstract
Using polymer-analogous reactions of hydroxyl-containing polyimides with 2-Br-isobutyroyl bromide in the presence of triethylamine and potassium iodide as a catalyst, multicenter polyimide macroinitiators of controlled atom transfer radical polymerization are obtained, having different functionalization degrees with 2-Br-isobutyrate groups. Molecular weights of macroinitiators were determined in N,N-dimethylformamide solutions. Using static and dynamic light scattering techniques, we show that supramolecular structures are formed in the chloroform solutions due to the interactions of hydroxyl groups. The size and amount of these supramolecular structures depend on the sample functionalization degree.
