Abstract
The problem of harmonic wave propagation with small amplitude in nematic liquid crystals is considered. The Frank? Oseen approximation for a nematic phase and Rapini?Papoular model for surface tension are studied. Three cases of isotropic phase are considered: an ideal medium with zero density, viscous and ideal incompressible media under gravity forces. For these cases solutions of the problem of surface gravitational waves are obtained. The dispersion relations are deduced and studied using parametric representation. The diagrams for real and imaginary part of the frequency as a function of wave number are drawn. Also the problem of stability of waves is analyzed.
