Abstract
Results of the experimental studies of the features of the structure and qualitative characteristics of subsonic plane macro- and microjet development in a transverse acoustic field are presented. The research technique involves the hot-wire anemometric measurements and flow smoke visualization with synchronization of the narrow laser sheet lighting by acoustical action frequency on the jet. It is shown, that in both cases the jet is subjected to sinusoidal instability. Twisting of the plane microjet at its edges in the direction of the variable flow velocity vector generated by the transverse acoustic field is found. It is shown that the twisting process terminates downstream development of the microjet and prevents its further downstream evolution and, finally, its turbulisation.
