Abstract
The results of an experimental study of a flow around cylinder, parallel to supersonic stream (M = 5), with a flat wire screen located before its forward end are presented. Data of the model wave drag, the heat fluxes to the face of cylinder depending on the geometric parameters of grids and distance between the wire screen and the face of cylinder are acquired. A significant (up to 55%) reduction in wave drag of the model with upstream advancement of the wire screen is discovered. The results of the shadow visualization of flow around the model, the measurement of the velocity field by the method of tracking particles and the measurement of the heat flux to the face of cylinder by the IR-camera and colorimetric methods are given. Measurements data of the dynamic, static pressures distributions and the distributions of Mach number after the wire screen, data of aerodynamic drag of wire screens with the grids of different geometry are given. The physical model of the wave drag reduction of cylinder with the wire screen in the supersonic flow is proposed on the basis of the obtained experimental results.
