The deformation component of the force of resistance to sliding of a stamp on an elastic foundation is calculated (plane problem). It is shown, that for the energy conservation law to be valid, additional factors of contact interaction must be taken into account. In the case of a stamp with a fixed contact area the tangential forces applied to the angular ends of stamp represent such a factor. In the case of a smooth stamp, the non-uniformity of the tangential contact stress and sliding velocity distributions over contact area is such a factor.
