The results of numerical modeling of problems that illustrate the behavior of geomaterials under various conditions are presented. Deformation in dilatation and compaction modes is studied in the framework of a mathematical model with a combined yield surface and a non-associated flow law. Equations relating the yield surface and the dilatancy factor are proposed, taking possible consideration of changes of deformation modes. The influence of pressure and porosity of the medium on strain localization are studied. It is shown that the change in deformation modes can be caused not only by changing the stress state, but also change the properties of the medium during the process, namely, the accumulated volume strain.
