An experimental investigation of certain flows of non-Newtonian fluids, namely, capillary breakup of jets and liquid bridges (filaments) of polymer solutions is presented. Special attention is given to the developing of methods for measuring elastic stresses in a fluid subjected to extension in a flow. These stresses are considered to be responsible for the hydrodynamic effects observed. |
