The problem of stability of a steady rotation of the rotor systems containing a viscous liquid is considered. Previously, a new method for investigation of stability of such systems was proposed and developed in our paper in Trans. ASME. J. Applied Mechanics, 2006, vol. 73, N 4. This method revealed that for the instability of the steady-state rotation, the relationship between internal friction in the liquid contained in the rotor and external damping in the supports of its axis is important. At the same time an explanation of the well-known experimental fact that the loss of stability of the steady-state rotation of the rotor containing liquid may be accompanied by a synchronous precession is received. This particular result for rotor systems in principle can not be explained in terms of conservative models.
