The direct problem is the impact of a material point (body) on a cylindrical shell. The elastic and elastic-plastic models of impact are used; the shell is elastically deformed by the vibrations. Solutions are obtained in terms of double series for the displacements, velocities and accelerations of the points of the shell. The experimental method of measurement of these quantities is developed; the convergence of series and the reliability of the calculations are proved. A method is developed and relations between the medium acceleration of the points of the shell during 1 ms the impact parameters of the body (the distance from the point of impact, mass and velocity of the body at impact) are obtained. The main task consists in defining the parameters of the impact on the basis of calculations of the direct problem with the signals of sensors installed on the pipes of the aggregates of the NPP. The point of impact on a small-radius pipe is determined from the signals of two sensors, based on the velocity of the movement of the radial acceleration front.
