The paper deals with convective instability of viscous incompressible fluid in a rigid square box with uniform internal heating. The main purpose is to study numerically subcritical hexagonal convection with respect to the flow direction. The critical Rayleigh number is determined in the scope of a 2D model. Finite amplitude subcritical convective motion in the form of hexagons has been registered in 3D simulations. Dependence of the kinetic energy on the Rayleigh number value for round and hexagonal flows is determined.
