Abstract
An approach to the implementation of the models of elasticity and plasticity based on the particle method is presented. The method is based on equations of motion and the description of interaction providing an adequate response of the element ensemble. The introduced approach makes it possible to model deformation and failure processes on various scale levels in the frame of the universal approach. In the present paper, the potential of the approach is illustrated using examples varying from the study of atomic mechanisms of deformation to the investigation of the laws of behavior of block geological media. In particular, the investigation showed that it is possible to control the displacement modes in active seismic zones. The response of materials under dynamic loading in a wide temperature range is investigated using the atomic-level modeling. Thermal fluctuations are shown to cause generation of zones of local structural changes.
