The conceptual peculiarities of the «visual turn» and its impact on the imagery issue in the modern social and humanitarian thought are analyzed in the article. We show its close relationship with the socio-cultural changes in the Western culture, on the one hand, and with the process of changes in scientific paradigms and epistemological foundations of scientific thought, on the other. The author makes a distinction between the modern and the postmod- ern visualistics making it the basis for the identification and comprehension of the contemporary historiography imagery issue.
