Abstract
The article proposes a mathematical model of astrocytic regulation of inhibitory and excitatory signal pathways in a neural network. The model describes the dynamics of an interneuron with excitatory and inhibitory inputs whose effi- ciencies are modulated by different gliatransmitters (glutamate, D-serine) released by neighboring astrocyte activation. This modulation coordinates the excitatory and inhibitory inputs, that allows the astrocyte to prevent interneuron hyper- excitation. In addition, the model predicts that the modulation is frequency-dependent and either potentiates or depresses the neuron response depending on the input frequency.
