Swedish prose of the 1960s keenly reflects the changing social system at the time. The authors seek the antithesis of this new ideology in the Baroque era via the «adventure» histories of France, Austria, and Germany. The article exam- ines the stylistic features of novels by P.O. Enquist, who worked closely with elements of the postmodern historical novel, picaresque novel, social novel, and Roman ? clef . The article analyses his prose in relation to the social and psychological issues relevant in Swedish literature of the time.
