The article presents a classification and functional-semantic description of positive evaluation speech acts, such as approval, praise, compliment and flattery in dialogical discourse in English fiction. The positive evaluation speech acts are analyzed from the point of view of different classifications of illocutionary acts. The article also probes into the illocutionary aims of approval, praise, compliment and flattery speech acts. All possible variants of combinability of the positive evaluation speech acts with other speech acts are also provided.
