In today's Lebanon, the Shiite community struggles for raising its status on the political arena. At the same time, political life in Lebanon is guided by confessional principles that emerged during the French mandate. The strengthening of this community's position has both domestic and foreign policy consequences for Lebanon and the Middle East region.
