The article analyses main labour practices of the population of small Russian towns, which were revealed on the basis of the author's sociological research data (2005-2012). Overtime and secondary employment practices are considered, as well as private subsidiary farming, unemployment and poverty, seasonal work and the prevalence of employment in the tertiary sector. It is proved that the employment practices of the population of a small town are determined by socio-economic and socio-political factors.
