| Phrases and their syntactic meanings in the Old Russian language differ significantly from those in the present- day language. In the course of historical development, there appeared shifts in case usage. Such changes are caused by a language tendency to express certain relations in a more accurate way. Realizing certain meanings through simple, non-prepositional cases is gradually declining. Simple cases are being replaced by prepositional cases, with a narrowing of the range of their meanings. |
