The article analyzes the fight of the king of Macedonia Philip V against the pirates in the later 3rd century B.C. The author concludes that the Macedonian king’s policy regarding the problem of piracy was not consistent. As a «peacekeeper», Pillip V used some pirates in his fight against some other pirates. The Macedonian king has not achieved significant results with his anti-piracy measures; due to financial problems, most of his efforts were left unfinished. The main reason for the failure of this policy lies in the fact that such a mission could be taken up only by a strong sea power, which Macedonia had never been.
