| The article examines the remarkable description of all languages compiled in the early 19th century by the German scientist Johann Adelung. In this major work he described 500 languages, including their grammar structure and lexical features. Besides, the text of the prayer «Our father» was translated into each language. In the introduction to «Mithridates», the author proposed his theory of the origin of languages and tried to substantiate it. |
