The aim of this article is to examine the current situation and prospects of regional clusters development. Taking into account the current specialization and existing competitive advantages, an assessment of potential clusters was made. A quantitative analysis of clustering in the regions of the Volga Federal District was performed. Based on the results of the analysis, some conclusions and proposals were made to improve the mechanism of institutional support for the development of clusters in the Nizhni Novgorod region.
